Counterfeit Money Circulating in Port Angeles

A man and woman are suspected of passing counterfeit bills in Port Angeles. This according to the Clallam County Sheriff's Office and King 5 News. Both the Sheriff's Office and Tribal Law Enforcement Agencies in Clallam County have received reports of counterfeit money being used. It should come as no surprise to those reading this. As you know, counterfeiting is on the rise. Especially given today’s high tech printers

Most of the counterfeit money passed spent was $10 and $20 dollar bills. While reports of $50 dollar bills are now said to be circulating. A Walmart in Port Angeles received $400 dollars in counterfeit bills. Mostly in 20’s and 50’s. A man and a woman has been seen passing off the bad bills. No identification has been made for either of them.

The bills were printed on heavier-weight paper. Meaning the paper was thicker and heavier than normal currency. While the print and images on the paper were not as clear as one would expect with U.S. currency. Some of the bills contained repeating serial numbers. While all of them lacked the security features the U.S. Treasury bills are known for. Making these bills stick out like a sore thumb.

Police are asking for your help. Please look at the pictures of the suspects and contact the Sherriff’s Office immediately if you can identify them. The suspects drove a maroon compact sedan. If you have any tips don’t hesitate to contact the Sheriff right away at (360) 417-2459.
